Outstanding wine, from one of Alto Piedmont’s premiere producers
Arpepe is based in Valtellina in the very north of Italy and have been growing Nebbiolo since 1860. Their vines now cover 13 hectares within the Valtellina Superiore DOCG area. The terraced vineyards are some of the most dangerous places to grow grapes due to the steep slopes. The resulting wines though are rare and fascinating expressions of Nebbiolo outside of the Piedmonte region.
There are a few vineyards under Arpepe’s helm in the Grumello sub region in Valtellina. Traditionally wines from this region are bolder and bigger expressions, but this cuvee is elegant and a pleasure to drink. Lovely aromatics of fresh cherries, violets, and baking spice. The palate is energetic and the tannins are firm, but there is a lovely grace about this wine.
