Each glass opens ripe and plush, with red cherry, blood plum and a mineral edge. There’s some decent weight that’s thrown around in a way that’s not ostentatious. Maybe life makes a little more sense when you’re drinking wines like this because these wines make sense.

Frank Cornelissen stumbled upon Sicily's unique terroir after a chance outing to a restaurant where he tried local wines from Mt Etna. A fragrant red field blend with plenty of personality. Structural and full of volcanic character, this blend is predominately Nerello Mascalese with a combination of five local varietals coming from old vine vineyards.

As Mt Etna is still an active volcano the wines produced show exceptional minerality from the truly unique topography of the soils in which the vines are planted. Sitting somewhere between 700-800m above sea level is 12 hectares of 100-year-old bush wines. The San Lorenzo is an aromatically charged wine, with dark cherry, red plums and sweet spice. The palate is powerful but has elegance and grace to it, notes of red cherry and minerals finishing with a firm structured tannins.

Finishes with power and a lovely backbone of acidity.
