This Whitlands Pinot Gris is the first release to come out of the Joans of Marc project, with a portion of the proceeds of every bottle going towards helping wildlife affected by this year's floods. It's a lean and crunchy wine with more freshness than you might expect from a Pinot Gris. Pithy citrus, lime leaf and quartz-like minerals with a little creamy texture from time on lees in old oak.

Roussanne from slow-ripening vines was barrel fermented in old French oak and left to rest on lees for six months. The result is a textural wine laden with spice and rich honeyed notes tempered by some light mineral salinity, cooling herbs and hints of peach skin.

A richness of weight is complimented by some more creamy character, familiar firm phenolics and hints of granite minerality, with touches of stonefruit present. Give this time to settle in your glass and you'll be greatly rewarded. As usual, the Beechworth cuvée is the richest of Adrian's three releases.

A Rodda Smiths Chardonnay 2021

Lovely struck match reduction notes, peach and nectarine. Half of this wine goes through malolactic fermentation and lees stirring to build creamy richness, while a third of the wine goes into new oak. Big Chardy lovers, this one goes out to you.

Willem Kurt Chardonnay 2019

Quite crystalline mineral on the nose, with notes of lemon citrus and lemon meal carrying through to fresh lemon drop on the palate. A nice line of savoury acid leads meets some fennel and lemongrass spice and a lovely texture. All fermented in tank, half the wine spent one day on skins adding some nice phenolic drive to the wine.

From the tip of Smith's vineyard, where the vines are shaded and grow deep into the soil. A hint of gunsmoke on the nose blows off to reveal a dense core of fruit that feels more relaxed with this vintage. Flashes of new oak give plenty of lift to the ripe citrus and nectarine flavours; some air allows this to show a some creamy oak, before a savoury and structured finish. Fermented in a mix of new and one-year-old puncheons, before spending a further six months in neutral barrels.

Nestled between the undulating hills of north-east Victoria are 23-year-old Viognier vines that Jarrod has turned into it pure gold! After a short stint on skins and a longer nine months on lees, this is softly textured and a real delight to drink. Stone fruit and some quinine are charged with a dose of fresh acidity and a little phenolic bite.
