The Il Modo Anfora Rosso is an ode to the rustic red wines made on the slopes of Sicily's Mt Etna. In lieu of Nerello Mascalese (a grape variety which is seldom grown in Australia), the team at Lethbridge Wines blended parcels of Sangiovese, Aglianico, Sagrantino, Nebbiolo, and Pinot Noir together and aged the wine in amphorae to mimic traditional Sicilian winemaking methods. The result is a savoury and mineral-laden wine, with notes of rich plum, lavender, dried kombu, and salted licorice with earthy brick dust tannins. Give it a bit of air before you get stuck in to let it open up, and then pair with barbecued meats of smoky eggplant dishes!
