Just north-west of Haro, in La Rioja Alta—one of the most exclusive areas in the region—is Akutain, a small grower house now in its second generation.
This Cosecha (or a young Rioja) is a delicious blend of Tempranillo, Grenache and a dollop of Viura for good measure and all fermented in fibreglass. Quite pure in style, there's plenty of cherry and brambly fruits, a little sumac spice and a nice lick of tannin, with some fresh acidity keeping it light on its feet.
