This wine is all about pushing boundaries without compromising on quality and integrity, which is why it’s the first (and only) of our Un-Grafted wine series.
This carefully handcrafted wine boasts purity in spades and is overflowing with character and charm. Fruit for this wine came from a unique vineyard overlooking the Goulburn River, sitting on rich alluvial soils in an area that’s home to many retired volcanoes—Dane has told us more than once that the quality of fruit from this spot is incredible! The Syrah is a blend of two separate ferments, which both underwent semi-carbonic maceration with 10 days on skins.
In the glass, expect bright and lifted fruit flavours, with intermingling notes of bramble berries, boysenberry, and raspberry coulis. There’s a fresh acidity and energy to the wine that make it perfect for summertime drinking. It’s fantastic as is, but if we were you, we’d chuck this one on ice before drinking.

Who is Momento Mori?
Dane and Hannah Johns founded Momento Mori to craft wines with considered integrity throughout the entire winemaking process. They farm two small plots on their property in Gippsland, Victoria, and another plot beneath the Black Snake Ranges in the Tonimbuk Valley using strict organic principles fully respecting the biodynamic ecosystems they operate within.
They also work with like-minded growers throughout Victoria. Their wines are all hand-made with small ferments, wild yeast, no new oak or mechanical pumps, no fining, filtering or additions, not even sulphur at any stage of wine making. Memento Mori’s wines are idiosyncratic, full of character, freshness and purity.
