Our love affair with Gamay is no secret and we've fallen hard for this one! A touch richer in style than often seen in local examples of the variety—fans of more traditional (read not Nouveau Carbonic) Gamay will find allegiance with this bottle. Expect lovely crunchy and snappy brambly berries, tart cherry with gentle brushes of herbs and a genuine fan of tannin driving and building through the palate. Pair with lentils and Toulouse sausage with a big dollop of mustard while listening to Leonard Cohen. Fruit was sourced largely from the Abbey Vineyard in Tarrawarra and fermented as a mix of whole berry and whole bunches, on skins for two weeks, before transferring to puncheons for six months maturation.

Lovely and aromatic, and almost overflowing with purple fruits and red cherries. This pours with a fresh and crisp profile thanks to an almost nutty tannin and a little stony minerality. Maybe buy two.

Thick as Thieves Gamay Pinot Noir 2023

Timo's Gamay comes from the Brookland Vineyard, grafted over old Merlot vines. It's hard to not love this bright and juicy wine, on the palate expect cranberry and cherry notes wrapped around a sweet core of red fruits, with just a crack of pepper complemented by a lovely spread of tannin.

A more sturdy expression but with plenty of youthful vibrancy and a little whole bunch tension—it's loaded with dark berries, red plum and powdery tannins. Lusatia Park has been producing brilliant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for a decade now and is located in the cool upper Yarra in the town of Woori Yallock.

Made using fruit from the Roundstone vineyard, a rare parcel of Gamay planted in the Yarra Valley in the 1990s. This bottle packs bright red berries, a touch of tart cherry, and oodles of fun.

Timo's Gamay comes from a vineyard in Dixons Creek, in the northern reaches of the Yarra Valley. It's an exceptional wine that has more in common with a structured Cru Beaujolais than a fruit-forward, new-world style of Gamay. Energetic, bouncy red fruits glide across the palate, with some whole-bunch sap and spice adding a lovely savoury dimension that pushes things into more brooding territory.
