We’re in on that alone, but there’s also a sturdy backbone of compact stone fruit and a nice citrussy-sherbety pull of acidity to keep you energised over the warmer months. We recommend pouring this into a fishbowl-sized wine glass, giving it a little swirl and savouring everything it has to offer. Superb modern Chardonnay that also deserves some space in the cellar.

It’s one of our favourite table Chardonnay’s every year. Always gets three votes at a park party, and loves to hang with Brie and crackers. If all that didn’t get you over the line, there’s also fresh stone fruit and a little lemon curd on the palate.

Chain of Ponds Chardonnay 2023

Grown at above 800 metres, Mrs Peyton gets warm days and cool nights so the conditions allow for some dialling in. Undergoes MLF and matured in oak, you really get a balance of ripe fruit and moreish spice here. Sips are full of peach skin, stone fruit, grapefruit and a little buttery goodness.

Swinging Bridge Mrs Payten Chardonnay 2022

A fantastic entry into the Chardonnay of Eastern Peake made with fruit from five vineyards across Western Victoria. A savoury expression of the variety, with subtle herbaceous notes and an oxidative leaning on the nose that carry onto the chewy phenolic palate with touches of oxidative salinity, and saline laced acidity with mealy almond husk and a faint impression of white stone fruit. Lots to discuss in every glass.

Eastern Peake Western Victoria Chardonnay 2022

While coming off the 2 million or so year younger Portlandian soil this still carries plenty of mineral substance, with a flinty puff, white stone fruit and grapefruit, this is taut, and waiting to be paired with something from the ocean.

## ABOUT CHARDONNAY
If there were such a thing as grape variety royalty, then Chardonnay would sit on the throne. Originating from a small village in Burgundy, France, it’s now the most widely planted variety in the world, seen in wine regions across USA, South Africa, all the way to New Zealand and beyond. Chardonnay has an almost timeless relevance in contemporary food and wine culture–its versatility both in the winery and on the dinner table means it can be used to create a wide variety of wine styles for an even wider variety of occasions. Though many think of Chardonnay and think of oak aged styles that are rich and full-bodied, it can also produce taut, chiselled wines that are begging to be paired with oysters. We can’t talk about Chardonnay wines without mentioning the premium end of the spectrum, including Grand Cru Chablis and even sparkling wines such as Blanc de Blancs (also known as Champagne). This malleability has earned Chardonnay the name ‘the winemaker’s grape’, as the wine it produces is heavily influenced by stylistic decisions made in the winery.
