Jean Paul Trijsburg Petit Ami Rouge Red Blend 2023

Fruit spent 13 days on skins, with a portion as whole bunches and was wild yeast fermented. The result is a bright and floral wine brimming with lots of light red berries, cherry, and fresh herbs, with just a hint of salinity, too. Would go well with a wee little chill in the chilly bin!

Anim Field 2022

Easy drinking and a good-time-kinda-wine, with cherry cola, sarsparilla and a nice dab of chalky tannin. There's a distinctly Australian and Italian feel, all at once, that makes it the perfect drop to drink while cooking a few snags—or Spiedini (skewers) on the BBQ! Made by the Chalmers family from the home estate and source of much of the Italian plant material we see especially in Victoria, but also across the country, hence the title Mother Block.

A blend of Pinot Noir, Dolcetto and Sangiovese, this one’s light but dusty with red cherry and drinks fresh thanks to some prevalent acidity that’ll cut through pepperoni, eggplant and gooey cheeses perfectly.

Made with Sangiovese, Barbera, Dolcetto, Pinot Gris and Noir. Keep it in the fridge then start pouring when nothing but a fun, fresh and juicy vino that will do! Tastes like crushed berries, watermelon, cherry, rhubarb and just a light squeeze of citrus juice. Need we say more?

Konpira Maru Voltron Red White Blend 2023

Carbonic red with punnets of berries on the palate, anyone? There’s a little tart cherry and plum too and a spicy acidity that’ll pair perfectly with some soft cheeses, dried apricots, quince and sunshine.

Rosnay Vin de Garage Beau Joli No.19 2022

This local blend of Portuguese red varietals greets us with aromas of lavender, plum, cardamom, mocha, and a faint whisper of boot polish. Touriga Naçional and Tinta Cão are at the helm of this blend and distinguish themselves through notes of ripe plums and liquorice—the former—and bright and fragrant blue fruits from the latter. The supporting acts though, are anything but in the shadows, Tinta Roriz brings a savoury depth to the palate to complement the Tinta Amarela’s floral and bay leaf herbal lift. To tie everything together the finesse of Alvarelhão and the acidity of the Sousão tightens, brightens and drives the long palate. Wonderfully complex and yet medium-bodied. We'd be very intrigued to see how this one tastes after a few years cellaring!

Jamsheed Flor de Corazon Italian Red White Blend Magnum 2022

Keep your favourite Gamay drinker on their toes. Pavana is a thin-skinned grape native to Northern Italy. Nice spice and a woodsy bark on the nose. A great pick for a wide array of cuisines, and quality of cooks, dark fruited and mid-weight but fresh. Works well with a chill.

There's a lovely balance of fruit and savoury notes in the glass thanks to the riot of Italian varieties—we're talking Barbera, Dolcetto, Refosco and Sangiovese here, with some Tempranillo in the mix, too. Über-drinkable, best mates with pizza and plenty of bang-for-buck... You're going to need a second bottle.

Billy Button Rosso 2021

A curated blend of varieties from the great Victorian regions of the Pyrenees, Grampians and Yarra Valley. Fleshy with a bouquet of bright florals, a juicy vibrant core of berry fruit and even more delicious with a chill. This blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Touriga Nacional is the perfect wine for when you really want to please everyone.

The blend composition of Vin de Sofa is prone to change, but the concept always stays the same: it's a light, bright and juicy red that's perfect for drinking chilled whilst chilling on the sofa (or anywhere, really!) This year's blend is made up of mainly Gamay, along with Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Sangiovese. It's awash with crunchy red fruits, fresh acidity and a lip-smacking dry finish.

Bright and juicy fruits mingle with savoury whole bunch characters to create a very fun wine indeed. Carbonic maceration brings some delicious lift that lends itself nicely to a little chill.

Gravity Rondinella 2021

A menagerie of flavours in one bottle, with notes of peach iced tea that sharpen up into something a little more savoury and saline, with hints of balsamic raspberries, and a racy acidity. A wild ride, but this does slide on down and before you know it, you'll be onto your next bottle!

Momento Mori Rosso 2020

A playful wine from Max and Siobhan at Anim Wines, using a combination of 9 different varietals all co fermented. Fresh bright red berries, a nice crunch and some fresh herbs. Would go well with a wee little chill in the chilly bin.

Anim Field Blend Red 2021

It’s soft and fresh, with lovely florals wafting from the glass before giving way to dark forestal berries and a little spice. In other words, it’s a sure thing for any and all winter afternoons.

Prometheus Wines Tinta Barroca 2021

Winemaker and all-round champion Tessa Brown first established her winery just outside of Beechworth in 2014, after having accrued a wealth of experience from her time at Sorrenberg. Along with her husband, Jeremy Schmölzer, who comes from an architectural background, the pair have been crafting pristine and elegant wines from a multitude of quality sites around Victoria, quickly earning themselves an enviable reputation. Roter is a blend of Shiraz, Pinot Noir, and Merlot from the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula, fermented as whole berries and aged in a mix of large and small oak barrels. It's lifted and bright, with a core of crunchy red and black berries along with a gentle imprint of peony florals. Easy-drinking and very accessible, this will happily take a slight chill if you should be so inclined!
