The 2021 vintage's wonderfully complex aromas greet you first with layers of earthy terracotta and wildflowers sitting alongside a whiff of gunpowder. Give it a good splash in a decanter before getting stuck in—the tannins are fine and velvety, though will only get better with time in bottle!

Light in the glass, yet the saline and ferrous iron notes alongside sandy tannins give this more than enough oomph to stand up to a hearty meal.

Dominó Colar Red Blend 2021

Straight up Castelão—a Portuguese native variety—brimming with crunchy red fruits, orange oil, a crack of spice, and a nice sandy grip. Hand-harvested fruit underwent partial whole bunch fermentation before spending 11 months resting on lees in old Burgundy barrels.

COZs Pop Red 2021

Some reduction upon opening blows of to reveal layers of spice. Firm tannins in the glass envelope some pink peppercorn spice and small, red berries with a bright line of acidity peeking through.

Partida Creus SM Sumoll 2020

Fruit spent 13 days on skins, with a portion as whole bunches and was wild yeast fermented. The result is a bright and floral wine brimming with lots of light red berries, cherry, and fresh herbs, with just a hint of salinity, too. Would go well with a wee little chill in the chilly bin!

Anim Field 2022

Made with three varieties—Tempranillo, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional—from a vintage that brought incredible freshness. So juicy with beautifully lifted blue fruits and violets, alongside plum, raspberry and some savoury, crisp tannins.

Easy drinking and a good-time-kinda-wine, with cherry cola, sarsparilla and a nice dab of chalky tannin. There's a distinctly Australian and Italian feel, all at once, that makes it the perfect drop to drink while cooking a few snags—or Spiedini (skewers) on the BBQ! Made by the Chalmers family from the home estate and source of much of the Italian plant material we see especially in Victoria, but also across the country, hence the title Mother Block.

Envinate Migan Listan Negro 2021

This local blend of Portuguese red varietals greets us with aromas of lavender, plum, cardamom, mocha, and a faint whisper of boot polish. Touriga Naçional and Tinta Cão are at the helm of this blend and distinguish themselves through notes of ripe plums and liquorice—the former—and bright and fragrant blue fruits from the latter. The supporting acts though, are anything but in the shadows, Tinta Roriz brings a savoury depth to the palate to complement the Tinta Amarela’s floral and bay leaf herbal lift. To tie everything together the finesse of Alvarelhão and the acidity of the Sousão tightens, brightens and drives the long palate. Wonderfully complex and yet medium-bodied. We'd be very intrigued to see how this one tastes after a few years cellaring!

Yarra Yering Dry Red No.3 2019

Hailing from Sudtirol, on the border of Italy and Switzerland, Nals Margreid dates back to 1932 when Alois Busetti and a group of wine growers set out to create some of the finest, high-altitude wines. This Schiava is beautifully light and delicate, with red florals and red berried fruits meeting just a touch of nuttiness.

In the glass, there's tension and snappiness that reminds us of a Bardolino. Think wild strawberry, raspberry and a little hard-candy snap to the red-fruited sweetness, with the hallmark thread of alpine freshness running right through it. Unsurprisingly, this loves a chill to really dial up the brightness (and guzzlability, too!)
