A fantastic entry into the Chardonnay of Eastern Peake made with fruit from five vineyards across Western Victoria. A savoury expression of the variety, with subtle herbaceous notes and an oxidative leaning on the nose that carry onto the chewy phenolic palate with touches of oxidative salinity, and saline laced acidity with mealy almond husk and a faint impression of white stone fruit. Lots to discuss in every glass.

Eastern Peake Persuasion Syrah Rosé 2022

This sits comfortably on the richer side of the sparkling spectrum within the context of Australian sparkling wine, with a lovely savoury influence of the Pinot Noir component anchoring and bringing depth to the wine. Ripe pear and yellow nectarine set the scene for this delicious drop while a moreish texture builds into rich fruits with ice cream wafer and biscuity autolytic character.

Pure red cherry, raspberry and ripe strawberries delight, along with just a dusting of spice. There’s also a nice savoury quality to the wine with svelte tannins, from 15 months in oak, making for a long palate which is great, because you’ll want to savour everything this has to offer!

Made ‘accidentally' for Dhillon’s children to enjoy, rather than having them drink all the Block 5 and Original Vineyard. It carries a Pinot-like weight that’s fruity and has a little juiciness and earthy grip, but drinks silky and lithe of course. Pour it out and watch it disappear and people turn a little sad when they realise it’s all gone.

90% Syrah and 10% Pinot pressings, L’Altina is alive with lifted berries that bring some juiciness and are balanced with some peppery spice and a herbal twang. One that’s quaffable, but can give you plenty to think about, if you want to unpack all the length and layers.

This glorious Chardy from our friends at Cobaw Ridge brings together a barrel of their pressings from 2021 that saw two years in oak and one from 2022 that saw just one year in oak. The result is a pure and pristine, with zesty fruits sitting alongside nutty and salty notes layered over the palate thanks to a touch of oxidative handling.

Raspberry, cherry, and forest floor, with silky tannins and fresh acidity layered with the spice we've come to expect from Doug's Vineyard. Pinot Noir from vines sitting atop a North East facing hillside were hand-harvested and carefully sorted in the cool of the morning and soaked as whole bunches, before spending 12 months on lees in a mix of Dominique Laurent "Magic Cask" and seasoned Burgundian oak, and a further four months on fine lees in stainless tank to integrate.

This year's iteration shows a little more sun-derived richness, with sturdy tannins that will continue to unfold; providing a solid backbone to build fruit over the years or in the glass. A small percentage was fermented as whole bunches and has lent some wonderfully heady aromatics to the nose and some lovely autumnal leafiness on the palate—breathe deep and enjoy.

A more structured rendition of Curly Flat's Central Pinot Noir than we've seen in recent vintages, but exceptional, as always. This carries its bigger frame with elegance, with a mixture of darker, more savoury fruit and lots of robust, yet detailed tannin. Give this a good decant, or better yet, give it a few years to really settle in.

Sourced from Curly Flat's cooler Westen block, from vines planted over white, sandier soils. Beautifully red-fruited, with some lifted, sweet varietal spice and expressive florals on the nose with a wonderfully silky fine palate. A small portion of whole-bunch adds to its vitality and the exclusion of any new oak enhances its purity, these block wines add a new dimension to the Curly Flat offering.
